An Evening Under the Stars – 20th Anniversary Celebration
Thursday, June 5, 2008

The Portland-Suzhou Sister City Association celebrated 20 years of working together with the people of Suzhou to develop, cultural, educational and economic ties at this annual benefit event.

Special guests of honor, Mayor Tom Potter and Ms. Karin Hansen, joined in an evening in toasting the many ties between our two cities. The Mayor reflected on leading an extremely successful 20th Anniversary Official Delegation to Suzhou in April.

The first annual Newcombe Wang Memorial Scholarship to a student from China attending Portland State University was awarded to Mr. Chen Mingjian. LRS Architects, Inc., received the Business Achievement Award and Mr. Jim Mockford received the Cultural Achievement Award. Congratulations to these fine recipients who have made great strides toward building stronger relationships between Portland and Suzhou.

This event takes place in Portland's Classical Chinese Garden, an enduring friendship project built by the people of Portland and Suzhou.
